This is a lovely, romantic trip back through the rock and pop 80s, a wonderfully sweet reminder of the joys of first loves, loyal friends, and extended families. It’s a can’t-miss journey back into the world of VHS tapes, landlines, old cars, denim jackets, and high school sweethearts. Roll down the windows, pop in your favorite cassette, and enjoy the ride!

May I Have Your Attention Please is a sweet and romantic coming-of-age story that readers of all ages can enjoy. Even without having grown up in the 80s, I loved following the story of Sally, James, and their families and friends as they deal with real, relatable struggles that both young adults and older readers can relate to and connect with. While people alive during the 80s will appreciate all the nostalgia and references, I loved the connections to Massachusetts, the realistic high school and family struggles, and of course, the charming main love story.

I can’t wait to read more from McKinney High Class of ’86!

May I have Your Attention Please is a delightful story of first love, and it is filled with all the amazing and awkward emotions and clumsy navigation of uncharted waters that come with it.

The story takes place in the 80s, a time when folks weren’t easily connected 24/7. Where folks had to write letters from camp or vacations instead of just sending a text.

Young love in that era was difficult to navigate, but you managed with the help of your friends. This nostalgic take on relationships heading into the final decade of the 20th century is the heart of Author Debby Meltzer Quick’s heartfelt novel.

The characters are fully realized and experience the thrill of new relationships, the heartbreak of failure, and discover the value of the friendships as they navigate high school.

May I Have Your Attention Please is a nostalgia laden trip down memory lane with fully realized characters, snappy dialogue, and breezy narrative that never gets bogged down by the weight of the drama.

This book is sweet, funny, and has all the benchmarks of what made films like “Sixteen Candles” and “Pretty in Pink” so memorable.

Your new obsession is here!

A very powerful, true to life romance. The story brings us back to highschool in the 80s with all the great music, glam and glitter only the 80’s could offer.
I highly recommend this beautiful, funny touching book to any generation.

I loved this sweet reminder of my past. All the references to the 80’s, really were nostalgic for me. My family had a large oversized station wagon that I got the joy of driving when I got my license. The reminders of all the great musical artists of the time, help set the mood. This was a wonderful read even if you didn’t have the delight of spending time growing up in the 80’s.
Sally and James meet again in high school after Sally had gone to a private school the year before. That year changed both of them and the second they see each other again, they are drawn to each other. This coming of age romance story was very well written with multiple POV’s and raw teenage emotion.

I savored this book as it was a welcome foray back to the eighties! Mink hairspray, white Keds, pink puffy shirts and that’s just for starters on my list of why I love this book. It is a reminder of young love—the heart pounding, the first lovely perfect kiss. I just loved it.

Debbie Meltzer Quick’s book ‘May I Have Your Attention Please’, is a sweet coming-of-age story. Set in the 1980s, Meltzer faithfully rebuilds that decade through song title chapter headings, descriptions of 80s culture, style, fads, and references to major happenings. The story is well-written, the dialogue natural, and the characters are relatable.
The main characters Sally Bachman and James Newell have known each other for years, but their interest in each other only blossoms after Sally spends a year at another school. A year in which she changes from a shy, skinny girl into a young woman James cannot ignore. As the two build a relationship, they also deal with the ups and downs of high school life, work, and family issues that challenge them and their decision-making capabilities. Will their love survive the obstacle course of their teen years? Get it now and find out!
